Political analyst and former Member of Parliament Golam Maula Rony has declared that July 2025 has ushered in a period of unrest in the nation’s life. He attributes the turmoil to the weaknesses and misgovernance of the current administration, which has been in power for the past eleven months. According to Rony, a series of deceptive strategies and flawed decisions have not only deepened political complexity but have also spread public discontent nationwide.
In a recent video message on his personal YouTube channel, Rony shared his critical analysis of the prevailing political climate.
“This unrest,” Rony stated, “is rooted in the government’s sustained misgovernance. One wrong decision after another, entangled with deliberate political manoeuvring, has complicated the political arena to prolong their grip on power.”
Rony pointed to widespread unrest across Bangladesh during July and August, noting that July in particular witnessed an uprising against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her 15-year regime. He described the events as fuelled by a shared hope among the people — the aspiration for regime change, the fall of Hasina, and the rebirth of democracy.
“In those days, the streets were alive with resistance,” he noted. “People hoped for an end to 15 years of misrule and a revival of democratic governance and the rule of law.”
Highlighting the psychological dimension of political engagement, Rony emphasised that people can endure the gravest hardships if they are fuelled by hope.
“No matter how dire the situation, if a person believes that tomorrow could bring a beautiful morning, they will endure. But if doubt is sown — that happiness and comfort might vanish with the sunrise — then even the wealthiest life becomes hollow.”
Rony described July 2024 as a month of hope and collective struggle.
“Even the most timid citizens — those who couldn’t bear the sight of a chicken being slaughtered — took to the streets. Many shed blood, and many stood tall beside bloodied bodies,” he recalled.
This, he said, was driven by a longing for freedom and dignity that had been eroded over the past eleven months.
In contrast, he described July 2025 as a month marked by tragic incidents and disruptions across the country. These events, he argued, stem from:
Root Causes of Unrest
Political immaturity
Administrative failure
Absence of justice
Mob violence
Coercion and abuse of power
Extortion
Mud-slinging among political parties
Rony concluded that such a convergence of failures has led to national turmoil, reflecting a deeply flawed political and administrative structure.
