Brent Christensen succeeds Peter Haas, who retired last September. During the interim period, the embassy has been managed by Chargé d’Affaires Helen LaFave. Christensen’s background suggests a focus on high-level security and economic stability. Most recently, he served as the Foreign Policy Advisor to the US Strategic Command, where he advised on global deterrence missions.

In his Senate confirmation hearing, Christensen described Bangladesh as being at a "critical juncture" following the student-led uprising in August 2024. He emphasized that the United States supports Bangladesh’s journey toward a democratic future and signaled his intent to work closely with both the interim government and the democratically elected administration that follows.
