The 2026 FIFA World Cup is set to kick off on 11 June across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. This tournament will feature 48 teams for the first time, and the full schedule has already been announced. However, the recent release of the updated ticket prices has sparked widespread discontent among football fans, particularly regarding the final match tickets, which are priced at exceptionally high levels.
According to the Associated Press (AP), FIFA allocates 8 per cent of total tickets to the national football associations of participating countries. This measure is intended to ensure that associations can sell tickets to their most loyal supporters.
The ticket list published by the German Football Association shows that group stage match tickets range from $180 to $700, equivalent to approximately 21,955 BDT to 85,384 BDT. In contrast, the cheapest ticket for the final costs $4,185 (around 510,000 BDT), while the most expensive ticket is priced at $8,680 (approximately 1,058,764 BDT).
BBC has reported that the supporters’ group Football Supporters Europe expressed astonishment at FIFA’s “excessive pricing” policy. The group has called on FIFA to halt ticket sales immediately. Additionally, the England Football Supporters Association has described these exorbitant prices as equivalent to “slapping fans in the face.” FIFA has not yet commented on these criticisms.
BBC Sport further reported that final tickets will be available in three tiers—Supporter Value Tier: $4,185, Supporter Standard Tier: $5,560, and Supporter Premier Tier: $8,680.
AP notes that the current group stage prices do not align with FIFA’s earlier promise of $60 tickets seven years ago. When the United States submitted its bid to host the 2026 World Cup, football authorities aimed to provide thousands of tickets at $21 for the opening matches. The prices now published bear little resemblance to that initial plan.
Football Supporters Europe (FSE) stated, “This is a significant betrayal of the World Cup’s heritage. The contribution of supporters has not been properly respected.” The group has urged FIFA to suspend ticket sales through national associations until a solution is reached that respects the World Cup’s tradition, universality, and cultural significance.
FIFA had announced in September that the ticket prices on their website would initially range from $60 for group stage matches to $6,730 for the final. However, the introduction of “dynamic pricing” for the first time means these prices could change.
