A young man in Egypt has been arrested for disguising himself as a young woman and creating deceptive videos in an attempt to gain more views. The incident has recently come to public attention.
The TikToker, known online as ‘Yasmin’, is actually an 18-year-old male student, according to a report published by Bol News on Thursday (21 August).
He had been posting videos under the guise of a young woman, misleading viewers. According to Egyptian authorities, the police received complaints that inappropriate content was being uploaded from the ‘Yasmin’ account. Following this, the owner of the account was arrested. During interrogation, the young man admitted that he had adopted the female persona to increase his followers, boost video views, and earn money.
The youth, identified as Abdul Rahman, confessed that he used the disguise to attract views, financial gain, and advertising opportunities. His admission highlights the extreme and unusual tactics some content creators employ to succeed online. Following his confession, Abdul Rahman was formally charged with impersonation and violating public morality.
As part of the investigation, authorities seized his phone and all associated online accounts. After spending four days in custody, he was released on bail for 5,000 Egyptian pounds. However, his neighbours said they had never seen him do anything suspicious and had always considered him a typical young man.
