Ten active members of the teenage gang ‘Pataly Group’ have been arrested in an army operation in the Rayerbazar area of Mohammadpur, Dhaka.
On Wednesday (October 30) morning, an official from the 46 Independent Infantry Brigade confirmed that the operation was conducted between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. on October 29, during which the suspects were detained.
The arrested individuals are—Shopon (30), Al Amin (22), Shakil (25), Muntaj (25), Mukhtar (23), Riaz (21), Imon (20), Limon (20), Akhtar (20), and one of the group’s key leaders, Nayeem (22).
According to army sources, intelligence reports around 9 p.m. indicated that several members of the Pataly Group had become active again in criminal activities in the Rayerbazar area. Acting on the information, an army patrol team quickly launched an operation.
Sensing the presence of army personnel during the raid, some gang members jumped into a canal and fled. However, ten individuals were arrested from the scene.
Local residents said that members of the Pataly Group had long been involved in extortion, mugging, and drug dealing in the area, causing widespread fear among locals. They expressed relief and satisfaction following the army operation and arrests.
After preliminary interrogation, the detainees were handed over to Mohammadpur Police Station for legal proceedings. Local sources reported that such swift action by army personnel has helped restore peace and security in the area.
An official from the 46 Independent Infantry Brigade stated that several residents had called the Mohammadpur Army Hotline to report the gang’s ongoing criminal activities. Based on those complaints, an operation was carried out in the Rayerbazar area, leading to the arrest of 10 teenage gang members.
He also mentioned that some of the arrestees had been detained previously but were released on bail. After initial questioning, all detainees were handed over to Mohammadpur Police Station for further legal procedures.
