11 Tourists Injured as Chander Gari Overturns on the Way to Keokradong

Eleven tourists were injured when a Chander Gari overturned on the way to the popular tourist destination Keokradong in Ruma upazila of Bandarban. The accident occurred at around 6:00am on Thursday (20 November) at the Papaya Garden area on the Keokradong road.

The injured are—Siddiqur Rahman (55), Hashmat (45), Rashedul (44), Afiqur Islam (44), Md Sohel Rana (45), Md Faruk Ahmed (42), Akram Ali (37), Juma (26), Rumi Akter (28) and Belayet (33). All of them are residents of Kushtia district. Their guide was Swapan Barua (34), son of Anadi Barua of Barua Para under Ruma Sadar Union.

Ruma Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Adnan Chowdhury stated that the passenger vehicle overturned on its way from Boga Lake to Keokradong early in the morning. Eleven tourists on board sustained serious injuries. Locals rescued them and took them to Ruma Health Complex. Later, two of the injured were referred to Bandarban Sadar Hospital as their condition was critical.

According to police and locals, at around 6:00am on Thursday, a team of 13 people, including the guide, started from Boga Lake towards Keokradong by Chander Gari. When they reached the Papaya Garden area, the driver lost control and the vehicle overturned. Eleven tourists on board were injured. With the help of locals, they were quickly rescued and taken to the health complex. Of them, two were in critical condition and were sent to Bandarban Sadar Hospital.

Ruma Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Sohrawardi said that 11 tourists were injured in the early morning accident on the Keokradong road and were taken to the health complex for treatment.
