120 Bottles of Illicit Liquor Recovered from Furniture Shop

Authorities in Chattogram recovered 120 bottles of locally brewed alcohol from a furniture shop in the district.

The operation took place on Monday, 29 September, at around 8:00 PM in Loha Gara, Kalaujan Union, specifically west of the Rubber Dam, near the tower in front of the shop.

 

Local sources reported that Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Md. Saiful Islam was on his way to inspect a puja mandap when he received a confidential tip regarding illicit alcohol being stored at the furniture shop. Acting on this information, he conducted a raid on the premises.

Officials present during the operation included:

  • OC Arifur Rahman of Loha Gara Police Station
  • SI Siraj of Loha Gara Police Station
  • Local UP member Bashirul Alam
  • Local residents

In the presence of all, 120 bottles of liquor were seized and later handed over to the Loha Gara Police Station for further action. The shop owner, Ekram, was not found at the scene.

 

Md. Saiful Islam, the UNO, stated: “While on the way to inspect a puja mandap, I received information that illicit liquor was being stored at a furniture shop. Based on this tip, we conducted a raid and recovered the bottles. The total seized quantity amounts to 30 litres across 120 bottles. However, the shop owner, Ekram, could not be located. Legal action is being taken in this matter.”
