15 Shops Destroyed by Fire in Lakshmipur

Fifteen shops were destroyed by fire in Ramgati, Lakshmipur. The incident occurred at Alexander Bazaar in the Ramgati Upazila headquarters early Friday (7 November) at 4 a.m. According to affected business owners, the fire caused damage worth nearly tens of millions of takas, including cash, goods, and the shops themselves.

Locals reported that the fire started around 4 a.m. due to an electrical short circuit at businessman Rasel’s leather cushion shop. The fire quickly spread to nearby shops. Upon receiving the news, two units of the Ramgati Fire Service arrived at the scene and, with the help of locals, controlled the fire after about one and a half hours. By that time, around 15 shops in the market had already been destroyed. Earlier, in October, within just one week, 30 shops in three other markets in the upazila were destroyed by fire.

Affected business owners said they had closed their shops around 10 p.m. and gone home to sleep. They suddenly received news that the market was on fire. Rushing to the scene, they found their shops destroyed. Losing their belongings and stock, they became distressed.

Khokon Majumdar, Officer-in-Charge of Ramgati Fire Service, stated that the fire started in the leather cushion shop due to an electrical short circuit and quickly spread to surrounding shops. Upon receiving the news, two units quickly arrived at the scene and brought the fire under control.

Ramgati Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kabir Hossain said that police were dispatched to the scene upon receiving the report. With the cooperation of the Fire Service, police, and locals, the fire was successfully controlled.
