In Homna, a police case has been filed against 215 members of the BNP and its affiliated organisations. The case was officially registered at Homna Police Station on the night of Wednesday, 28 January, following a clash that occurred earlier in the month.
Inspector Dinesh Dashgupta, the investigating officer at Homna Police Station, stated that the case stems from an incident on 22 January, when supporters of the BNP and a candidate running independently became involved in a violent confrontation. The complaint was lodged by Zahirul Haque Zohor, a former Upazila Chairman of Homna and a supporter of the independent candidate. According to Dashgupta, the confrontation included verbal disputes and physical scuffles, although no serious injuries were reported at the time.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Morshedul Alam Chowdhury emphasised that this is the first case of its kind in Homna related to the upcoming national parliamentary elections. “There have been no prior legal cases arising from election-related tensions in Homna,” he said. “Our primary objective is to ensure that local residents can exercise their right to vote peacefully. The law enforcement agencies remain fully prepared to prevent any form of electoral violence in the future.”
Eyewitnesses reported that the clash involved pushing, shoving, and heated exchanges between members of the rival groups. Local authorities were quickly notified, and law enforcement personnel intervened to restore order. The incident has raised concerns about election security, but officials have reassured the public that comprehensive measures are in place to maintain peace in the run-up to polling day.
