In a dramatic drug interception, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) recovered nearly 2,200 yaba tablets from the stomach of a young man in Jashore. The operation took place in the early hours of Tuesday, 17 February, around 2:30 am, at the Monihar Bus Stand in the city. The individual was subsequently admitted to Jashore 250-Bed General Hospital, where medical professionals are carefully extracting the tablets under close supervision.
The arrested youth has been identified as Masud Rana, 20, son of Hossain Ali, from Gorpara Colony, Sharsha Upazila. An X-ray conducted on Wednesday, 18 February, confirmed the presence of a large quantity of foreign objects in his stomach, consistent with the suspected drug tablets.
Major A.T.M. Fazle Rabbi Prince, commanding officer of RAB-6 Jashore Camp, stated that the arrest was made following a tip-off indicating that Masud Rana was transporting yaba towards the Benapole border via Jashore. Acting on this intelligence, RAB personnel intercepted him at the Monihar Bus Stand.
During initial questioning, Masud Rana admitted that he was carrying approximately 2,200 yaba tablets internally. He revealed that the drugs were collected from Cox’s Bazar and were intended for smuggling across the border at Benapole.
RAB officials confirmed that the youth is under continuous medical observation, and the extraction of the tablets from his stomach is proceeding cautiously to ensure his safety. Legal proceedings have been initiated under the Narcotics Control Act, and formal charges are being processed.
The authorities emphasised that such operations form part of a sustained effort to dismantle drug networks and prevent illicit trafficking. RAB reiterated its commitment to continuing stringent monitoring and prompt intervention to curb drug smuggling in the region.
