40 kg of cannabis seized, two drug traffickers arrested

Narayanganj, Bangladesh — In a significant breakthrough against narcotics trafficking, a joint task force apprehended two drug traffickers in Fatulla, Narayanganj, seizing a substantial quantity of cannabis. The operation, conducted late on Saturday night, led to the arrest of Joy Mia, 25, and Mithu Sardar, 35, along with 40 kilograms of cannabis.

The raid took place at approximately 1:30 a.m. in the Deobhog Nur Mosque area of Fatulla, following a tip-off from intelligence sources. According to local authorities, the operation was meticulously planned to intercept the traffickers while they were in possession of the drugs.

Both detainees are known figures in their respective communities. Joy Mia is the son of the late Lal Mia of Deobhog Nur Mosque area, while Mithu Sardar hails from Shantinagar, Bholaill, and is the son of the late Hasan Sardar. Sources indicate that the duo employed various sophisticated methods to conduct their illicit activities, making them key players in the regional drug trade.

Fatulla Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Abdul Mannan, confirmed the arrests and highlighted that the seizure is part of an ongoing crackdown on narcotics. He stated, “Acting on specific intelligence, our team was able to apprehend the two individuals along with 40 kilograms of cannabis. Efforts are now underway to track down their network, including their alleged godfather and accomplices.”

Authorities suspect that the traffickers were supplying cannabis across multiple districts, using covert channels to avoid detection. The seizure not only prevents a large quantity of the drug from reaching the streets but also marks a step forward in dismantling organised narcotics networks in the region.
