441 Lives Lost on Roads in October: Road Safety Foundation

In October, 486 road accidents occurred across the country, resulting in 441 deaths. Additionally, 1,128 people were injured. Among the deceased, 57 were women and 63 were children.

In September, an average of 13.9 people died daily in road accidents. In October, this figure rose to 14.7, representing a 5.75 percent increase in fatalities compared to the previous month.

On Wednesday, Saidur Rahman, Executive Director of the Road Safety Foundation, shared these figures in an accident report sent to the media. The report was compiled using data from nine national newspapers, seven online news portals, various electronic media, and the organisation’s own records.

According to the report, 137 motorcycle riders and passengers, 30 bus passengers, 24 truck, covered van, pickup, and trolley passengers, 7 private car and microbus passengers, 103 three-wheeler passengers, 34 passengers of locally made vehicles (Nasim, Vatvoti, Alamsahu, Tomtom, Mahindra), and 8 rickshaw and bicycle riders were killed.

Dhaka Division recorded the highest fatalities with 112 deaths in 121 accidents, while Sylhet Division recorded the lowest with 24 deaths in 26 accidents.

In its review and commentary, the Road Safety Foundation noted that the daily average number of fatalities rose to 14.7 in October, a 5.75 percent increase compared to September.
