The MV Clipper Isadora has arrived off the outer anchorage of Chittagong Port, carrying 57,203 metric tons of wheat from the United States, the Ministry of Food announced on Monday, 19 January. This shipment marks the second consignment under Bangladesh’s ongoing government-to-government (G2G) wheat import programme.
According to the ministry’s press release, the wheat imports are being conducted under a formal purchase agreement between the governments of Bangladesh and the United States. In total, the agreement stipulates the import of 220,000 metric tons of wheat. The MV Clipper Isadora is transporting the second tranche of this programme, following the arrival of the first shipment of 56,890 metric tons earlier.
Under the terms of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the two countries, this shipment was procured through a cash purchase arrangement. Of the 57,203 metric tons delivered in this second consignment, 34,320 metric tons will be unloaded at Chittagong Port, while the remaining 22,443 metric tons are scheduled for clearance at Mongla Port.
The Ministry confirmed that, with the arrival of this consignment, Bangladesh has now imported the full 220,000 metric tons agreed upon under the G2G arrangement. Officials have already begun sampling and testing the wheat to ensure quality and safety standards are met. Once laboratory results are confirmed, rapid unloading operations will follow to expedite distribution across the country.
This initiative underscores Bangladesh’s commitment to securing stable food supplies through international cooperation, ensuring adequate wheat reserves to meet domestic demand and strengthen national food security. Authorities continue to closely monitor the quality of imports and logistical arrangements to maintain efficiency and transparency throughout the import process.
