65 Individuals, Including Fakhrul, Granted Exoneration in Explosives Case

The Dhaka Metropolitan Court has exonerated 65 individuals, including BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, in a case filed under the Explosives Act at Ramna Model Police Station.

 

On Thursday, 21 August 2025, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Judge Md. Zakir Hossain Galib accepted the final report and issued the order of exoneration. The decision was confirmed by the Additional Public Prosecutor of the relevant court, Md. Rafiqul Islam Khan.

Background of the Case

The case originated from an incident during a BNP-organised mass rally on 28 October 2023 in Ramna, Dhaka. According to police sources:

  • Party activists gathered from various regions across the country.
  • They allegedly damaged vehicles and obstructed police operations.
  • Cocktail explosions were reported at the scene.

On 31 October 2023, SI Awal of Ramna Police Station filed a case naming 55 individuals, including Mirza Fakhrul, under the Explosives Act.

 

Investigation and Final Report

  • Following investigation, Deputy Inspector Mamun Hasan, the case officer, submitted two separate final reports to the court on 21 October 2024.
  • These reports recommended exoneration for 65 individuals, including Mirza Fakhrul.
  • On 18 December 2024, the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Dhaka accepted one of the final reports and granted exoneration.
  • The other final report under the Explosives Act was transferred to the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court, which was accepted today.

This decision concludes legal proceedings against the listed individuals in the explosives-related incident linked to the 2023 BNP mass rally in Ramna.
