Authorities in Indonesia have reported that up to 91 people may still be trapped under the ruins of a collapsed school on the country’s main island of Java.
The National Disaster and Mitigation Agency (BNPB) confirmed the numbers, based on student attendance records.
“Based on student attendance data, 91 people are suspected to be buried under building materials,” said Abdul Muhari, the agency’s spokesperson, in a statement issued late on Tuesday night.
Rescue teams are actively searching the site for survivors, working against the clock amid fears for the safety of those trapped.
