Gazipur, Bangladesh – In a startling discovery early on Friday morning, law enforcement authorities recovered several cocktail bombs from the pond adjacent to Pier Ali College in the Maona Bazar area of Shreepur. The cache was discovered at approximately 8:00 a.m. when local fishermen were casting nets in the pond.
According to witnesses, three young fish traders, including local resident Jahangir, were attempting to catch fish when a suspicious bag surfaced in their nets. Upon inspecting the bag, they noticed objects resembling explosive devices and promptly informed the police.
“We were simply fishing when something heavy got caught in our net. Upon closer inspection, it looked like bombs. We immediately called the police,” Jahangir recounted.
Police officers arrived at the scene shortly thereafter, cordoning off the area to ensure public safety. Members of the bomb disposal unit were also dispatched from Gazipur to safely secure and examine the suspicious items.
Shreepur Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge, Mohammad Nasir Ahmed, confirmed the recovery. “Several cocktail bombs have been seized from the pond. The area has been secured, and the bomb disposal team has been alerted. Appropriate legal action will be taken against those responsible,” he stated.
Authorities are investigating the origin of the explosives, as the presence of such devices in a public pond poses a serious threat to local residents and educational institutions. Meanwhile, the public has been advised to avoid the area until the situation is fully assessed and deemed safe.
The incident has sparked concerns among the local community regarding security in public spaces and near educational institutions. Police have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately.
