A 14-year-old schoolboy, Mustakim Mia, was fatally shot during a violent clash between rival groups in Raypura Upazila of Narsingdi, police and local sources reported. The incident occurred early on Wednesday morning, 4 February, at around 6 a.m., in the Saydabad area of Srinagar Union.
Mustakim, a seventh-grade student, was the son of Masud Rana, a resident currently working in Saudi Arabia. According to witnesses, the boy was standing in his home courtyard when he was struck by gunfire, resulting in his immediate death. His grieving mother, Shahana Begum, said, “My son had stepped out of the house and was standing in the courtyard when suddenly shots rang out. We are not affiliated with any group, and I demand exemplary justice for those who have taken my child’s life.”
Police and local residents explained that the Saydabad area has been a long-standing hotspot for rivalry between two local factions vying for territorial dominance. Previous clashes have resulted in injuries, property damage, and looting.
According to locals:
One faction is led by Hanif Master.
The opposing faction is led by Ershad Mia.
On Wednesday morning, followers of Ershad Mia reportedly attacked the homes of Hanif Master’s supporters armed with firearms and makeshift weapons. During the ensuing gunfight, Masum, also known as China, the nephew of former UP member Firoz Mia, allegedly fired shots that struck Mustakim in the courtyard.
The violent confrontation left at least ten people injured, including three confirmed gunshot victims:

Dr Bimal Chandra Dhar, emergency doctor at Raypura Upazila Health Complex, confirmed that Mustakim had been shot on the left side of his body. The bullet penetrated through his torso, and despite medical attention, he was declared dead shortly after arrival.
Following the shooting, tension gripped the local community. Police, alongside members of the army and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), were deployed to the area to restore order. Authorities have stated that the situation is now under control.
Raypura Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Mujibur Rahman confirmed the fatality and said that additional forces have been deployed. He added that efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible, while the total number of injured remains under verification.
