Authorities recovered the body of a young man from his Shahbagh residence in Dhaka on Sunday night. The deceased, identified as Kamal, aged 25, was discovered hanging in his own room at a flat located on 9/5 Secretariat Road, Shahbagh.
According to family members, Kamal reportedly took his own life in his room on the night of 18 January. Upon discovering the incident, relatives forced open the door and found him suspended from a ceiling fan. They immediately rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where medical personnel conducted an examination. Despite their efforts, he was officially declared dead at 10:45 PM.
Inspector Md. Faruk, officer-in-charge of the DMCH hospital police outpost, confirmed the incident. He stated that the body has been preserved at the hospital morgue and that the relevant police station has been notified for further investigation.
Family members remain uncertain about the motives behind Kamal’s tragic decision. His father, Kamal’s father, Mr. Kamal Sr., told authorities that he had no prior knowledge of any issues that may have led to the incident. No suicide note was reportedly found at the scene, and investigations into the circumstances are ongoing.
Local residents expressed shock and sorrow over the incident, highlighting rising concerns over mental health awareness and the need for accessible support systems in urban areas like Shahbagh. Mental health experts frequently emphasise the importance of early intervention and counselling to prevent such tragedies.
