Abdul Awal Mintu Warns Against Electoral Data Scams

In a robust start to his official campaign for the 13th National Parliamentary Election, Abdul Awal Mintu, the Vice-Chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), has issued an urgent warning regarding a sophisticated data-harvesting conspiracy. Speaking to supporters in Feni-3 (Daganbhuiyan-Sonagazi) on Thursday, the veteran businessman and politician cautioned voters against individuals posing as election officials to collect sensitive personal information.

A Calculated Plot to Mislead Voters

During his first day of mass outreach across various unions and marketplaces in Daganbhuiyan, Mintu revealed that reports have surfaced of unidentified persons visiting households to collect National Identity (NID) details and bKash account numbers.

“This is a well-planned conspiracy designed to undermine the democratic process,” Mintu declared. “I urge every citizen to remain vigilant and resist these malicious efforts. Under no circumstances should you share your private financial or identification data with anyone.” He emphasised that protecting one’s franchise is not merely a personal choice but a “constitutional responsibility.”

High Engagement and Grassroots Mobilisation

Mintu’s campaign kick-off saw a significant turnout, with local leaders and activists from the Juba Dal and Chatra Dal accompanying him through the rural heartlands of Feni. The presence of Akbar Hossain, the Daganbhuiyan Upazila BNP Convenor, underscored the party’s unified front in a constituency where the “Paddy Sheaf” remains a potent symbol of public aspiration.

The veteran leader, who has previously served as the president of the FBCCI (Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry), is leveraging his economic expertise to promise a “new Bangladesh” under the leadership of Tarique Rahman. His campaign focuses on the dual pillars of economic reform and the restoration of a transparent electoral environment following years of political turbulence.

Ensuring a Secure Vote

The warning regarding bKash numbers is particularly timely, as digital financial services are often targets for fraud during periods of national transition. Mintu’s team has instructed grassroots workers to educate rural voters on how to identify official election commission personnel versus fraudulent actors.

As the campaign progresses toward the 12 February polling date, the Feni-3 race is expected to be a critical barometer of the BNP’s nationwide momentum. Mintu concluded his first day by stating that the overwhelming public response confirms that the people are ready to reclaim their voice at the ballot box.
