The Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) Commissioner has been ordered to appear in court on November 19 to explain why Limon Mia, an accused in a murder case, was allowed to give statements to various print and electronic media blaming the victim while in police custody, and why no legal action has been taken in this regard.
On Saturday (November 15), Magistrate Md. Mamunur Rashid of the Rajpara Thana Amli Court in Rajshahi issued the order.
On November 13, Limon Mia entered the residence of the Rajshahi Metropolitan Sessions Judge, killed his 17-year-old son, Tawsif Rahman, and seriously injured the judge’s wife, Tasmin Nahar Lusi. Limon Mia was arrested at the scene by the police and admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
The court order stated that while in police custody, Limon Mia gave statements to the media blaming the victim, which is a clear violation of prior Supreme Court directives. For this reason, RMP Commissioner Mohammad Abu Sufian has been directed to appear in court on the scheduled date to explain his position.
