Bangladesh women’s national football team has been drawn into a formidable Group B alongside defending champions China, North Korea, and Uzbekistan for their debut appearance in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup, scheduled to be held in Australia from 1st to 21st March 2026.
The official group draw took place at a glittering ceremony hosted at Sydney Town Hall on Tuesday, revealing the three groups comprising 12 teams.
Bangladesh’s Historic Qualification
The Bangladesh team, coached by Peter Butler, booked their spot in this prestigious continental tournament by topping Group C in the qualifiers held in Myanmar earlier this year. The Tigresses showcased a dominant performance with an all-win record, marking a historic maiden qualification.
Their inclusion in the tournament presents an invaluable opportunity. A strong performance here could pave the way for qualification to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil and even the 2028 Olympic Games.
Road to the Finals
The tournament will feature 12 qualified teams, with eight teams advancing from the qualifying rounds (23 June – 19 July):
| Qualified via Qualifiers | Automatic Qualification |
| Bangladesh | Australia (Hosts) |
| Chinese Taipei | China (AFC 2022 Champions) |
| North Korea (DPR Korea) | South Korea (AFC 2022 Runners-up) |
| India | Japan (AFC 2022 Third Place) |
| Iran | |

Pathway to the World Stage
Bangladesh’s hopes of playing in the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027 are alive. If the team finishes among the top six teams in the AFC Asian Cup, they will secure a spot in Brazil.
Despite the challenge, Bangladesh have already shown they can compete at a higher level by outperforming relatively strong teams during the qualifiers.
