After a long wait, the classes of Dhaka Central University are set to begin.

The classes for the 2024-25 academic year of the ‘Dhaka Central University’, formed by the coordination of seven government colleges in Dhaka, will begin on 23 November.

A final decision regarding the necessary procedures for admission, registration, and academic activities was made during a meeting held on 11 November. The meeting was attended by representatives from the interim administration, the principals of the seven colleges, Dhaka University, the National University, and the University Grants Commission (UGC).

This information was provided in a press release sent by the Public Relations Division of the Ministry of Education on Tuesday (12 November).

According to the release, an operational manual for admitting students who passed the entrance exams and conducting academic activities was also approved during the meeting. Based on this manual, the admission process will be completed, and the classes for the 2024-25 academic year will start on 23 November.

The release further stated that the affiliation of Dhaka University with the colleges would be terminated, and the government has taken a policy decision to establish a separate university named ‘Dhaka Central University’ with seven colleges in the Dhaka metropolitan area. This decision aims to address the students’ demands for quality education, timely exams, and result publication, among other factors.

In preparation for the establishment of the independent university, the UGC has drafted the ‘Dhaka Central University Ordinance 2025’ and sent it to the Secondary and Higher Education Division.

The release also urged all to avoid confusion or conflicts based on personal opinions, incomplete information, or rumours. It particularly called for everyone to remain responsible and ensure that students’ valuable academic life and overall educational activities are not disrupted.
