A tragic fire recently devastated the Shilpara area of Ward 5 in Rauzan Municipality, Chittagong, leaving two Hindu families—Sukh Shil and Anil Shil—completely destitute. In what authorities describe as a deliberate act of arson, the homes of both families were reduced to ashes in a matter of moments. Furniture, household belongings, and life savings were all lost, leaving the victims in a state of fear, uncertainty, and despair.
In this critical hour, humanitarian support arrived in the form of Allama Ilyas Nuri, President of the Bangladesh Islami Front Rauzan Upazila and a parliamentary candidate for the Greater Sunni Alliance. On Thursday, 25 December, he visited the fire-affected site, checked on the families’ welfare, offered words of comfort, and pledged his continued support.
Addressing the gathered residents, Allama Nuri stated:
“When people care for one another, peace returns to society. It is not religious identity, but standing beside one another in times of adversity, that constitutes the highest form of devotion.”
His remarks delivered a powerful message to the local community, emphasising that humanity transcends religious and social boundaries.

Experts highlight that community solidarity is crucial during both natural and man-made disasters. Rauzan’s incident demonstrates how collective compassion and action can significantly aid in the psychological and material recovery of affected families.
