Allegation of Attack on NCP Candidate in Dhaka-18 Constituency

In a disturbing development ahead of the upcoming elections, National Congress Party (NCP) candidate Ariful Islam has alleged that he was attacked in Dhaka-18 constituency on Monday morning. The incident reportedly took place in the Dumni Nurpara area under the jurisdiction of Khilgaon Police Station in the capital.

The allegations were confirmed by NCP leader Arifur Rahman Tuhin, who accused a group of attackers, led by BNP leader Didar Molla, of assaulting the candidate. According to Tuhin, Ariful Islam had gone to the area for routine campaign outreach when the attack occurred.

Tuhin further claimed that the situation reflected a continuing pattern of harassment. “Even yesterday, supporters of the BNP candidate S.M. Jahangir reportedly intimidated our campaign volunteers,” he said. “We had notified Mr Jahangir about the incident, and he had promised such actions would not be repeated. Shockingly, the very next day, this assault took place.”

Speaking to reporters, Ariful Islam expressed determination to continue his campaign despite the alleged attack. “My colleagues are organising a strong defence. Even if I have to risk my life, I will continue our programme, Insha’Allah,” he stated, emphasising his commitment to reaching voters in the constituency.

The incident has raised concerns about the security of candidates and campaign workers in Dhaka-18, particularly with tensions running high between political parties ahead of the polls. Local authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the alleged attack, and the situation is reportedly under investigation.
