Alleged Godfather of Mugging Gang ‘Raktachosha John’ Arrested in Mohammadpur

In a raid conducted by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Dhaka Udyan area under Mohammadpur police station, the alleged godfather of a mugging gang, Md. John, also known as ‘Raktachosha John’ (32), was arrested. A samurai sword was seized from him during the operation, which took place on Thursday night (20 November) and was carried out by RAB-2.

At a press conference held at RAB-2 headquarters in Basila on Friday (21 November), Company Commander Major Monjurul Kabir Pial stated that John was found at an empty plot in the Dhaka Udyan area and was subsequently arrested there.

RAB officials added that John leads an active gang of approximately 23 members operating in Mohammadpur, Dhaka Udyan, Nabodoy Housing, Chandrima, and Nabinagar. The gang has been involved in extortion, drug trafficking, and muggings.

Major Monjurul Kabir noted that on 4 October, John’s followers attacked a tea seller named Habibullah. Following this, RAB-2 increased intelligence monitoring in the area. John and his associates intimidated pedestrians with various local weapons, including machetes, samurai swords, and knives, to steal money, mobile phones, and valuables. John faces five cases at Mohammadpur police station, including charges of drugs, weapons possession, and attempted murder. Operations to arrest other gang members are ongoing.
