Amit Hassan of Sylhet Division became the star of the sixth round of the National Cricket League (NCL) by scoring the season’s first double century, smashing 213 against Rajshahi’s bowling lineup. The 24-year-old reached his highest score in his six-year first-class career but could not progress beyond it, falling to a return catch off Asaduzzaman Payel. Notably, Amit had previously scored 213 against Khulna last season.
He began the third day unbeaten on 172 at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium and reached the double-century mark confidently, facing 221 deliveries with 28 fours and a six. This innings included a 342-run fourth-wicket partnership with Asadullah Al Galib, marking the second-highest partnership for that wicket in Bangladesh’s first-class history. The record remains with Alok Kapali and Rajin Saleh, who added 348 against Dhaka in 2014-15.
Since the introduction of the Duke ball in 2022, there have been only six double centuries across four NCL seasons, two of which belong to Amit. He was the only double centurion last season, scoring a total of 785 runs.
Even after Amit’s dismissal, Galib remained unbeaten on 160 at lunch, hinting at another potential milestone. This innings underscores Sylhet Division’s strong batting depth and Amit’s growing stature as one of Bangladesh’s leading first-class cricketers. With such performances, Amit Hassan continues to make a mark in domestic cricket, setting new standards for consistency and excellence.
