Another Student Found Dead on Staircase in Old Dhaka Residence

Once again, the body of a student has been discovered on the staircase of a house in Old Dhaka. The incident took place on Saturday (October 25) afternoon at house number 93/1, Agamsiha Lane in Bangshal. Upon receiving information, police recovered the body from the fourth-floor staircase, where a GI wire was found wrapped around the student’s neck.

The deceased was identified as Sajib (19), who had recently taken his Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examination from Ahmed Bawany Academy School and College in Bangshal.

Bangshal Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Md. Dulal Haque confirmed the incident, saying, “We went to the spot after being informed by locals. The body was recovered from the fourth-floor staircase. Initially, the identity was unknown, but later confirmed through the victim’s mobile phone. He was lying face down with a GI wire around his neck. It was learned that only one family lived on the fourth floor, while the rest of the building was used as a warehouse. The apartment was locked from outside.”

He added that it is initially believed Sajib was strangled to death with the GI wire. The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsy, and the matter is being investigated seriously.

At Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Sajib’s cousin Md. Islam said, “Sajib lived in Agamsiha Lane, Bangshal. He had taken his HSC exam this year but failed. A few days ago, he went to Dohar with a Tabligh group and returned home yesterday. Around 3 p.m. today, he received a phone call and went out. Later in the evening, we learned that his body was found on a staircase.”

He also said, “The house where Sajib’s body was found is where his girlfriend Khadija lived with her family. Khadija’s father is deceased, and none of her family members could be reached after the incident. Sajib and Khadija had been in a relationship for six years. Although they once had a dispute, they reconciled later. However, Khadija’s maternal uncles disapproved of the relationship.”

The victim’s family alleged that Khadija’s two uncles, Iqbal and Kamal, were involved in Sajib’s murder.

Earlier, on October 19, the body of a Jagannath University Chhatra Dal leader was found on the staircase of a house in Armanitola, Old Dhaka. Police later stated that the incident was the result of a “love triangle.”
