The Premier League title race has yet to reach its conclusion, with much still possible on paper. Manchester City, trailing Arsenal by nine points, have played one fewer game and still have eight matches remaining. The crucial head-to-head clash at the Etihad between Arsenal and City is also yet to be contested, meaning no team can yet be crowned champion.
However, recent performances suggest that Arsenal are on course to secure the title, barring any dramatic turn of events. Last night’s fixtures highlighted the current form gap. Arsenal defeated Everton 2–0, while Manchester City drew 1–1 with West Ham United, further extending the momentum in favour of the Gunners.
Arsenal’s victory was sealed in the dying moments of the match. Victor Okere scored in the 89th minute, and in the seventh minute of added time, 16-year-and-73-day-old Max Dowman netted his first Premier League goal. This landmark strike made Dowman the youngest goal scorer in Premier League history, surpassing James Vaughan, who had scored at 16 years and 270 days for Everton in April 2005.
Meanwhile, West Ham halted City’s advance in their draw. Bernardo Silva put City ahead in the 31st minute, but Konstantinos Mavropanos equalised just four minutes later. Neither team could find a winner, resulting in a shared point for both sides.
Following these matches, Arsenal lead Manchester City by nine points. Historically, City are the only team to have won the Premier League after trailing the leaders by nine or more points with 30 or more games played—a feat achieved during the 2013–14 season.
Despite the points gap, City manager Pep Guardiola remains determined. After the match, he stated, “It is not over. Who said it’s over? We have not lost. We will keep trying. Nine points behind Arsenal is a lot, and I acknowledge that. We still have home games left, so we must continue until the end. If it becomes impossible, we will congratulate the champion, but we must continue trying.”
| Rank | Player | Age | Club | Goal Date | Previous Record Holder | Previous Age |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Max Dowman | 16 years 73 days | Arsenal | Recent | James Vaughan | 16 years 270 days |
| 2 | James Vaughan | 16 years 270 days | Everton | April 2005 | – | – |
Arsenal’s strong finish and Dowman’s record-breaking goal have added drama and excitement to the title race, suggesting that the Premier League crown may well be heading back to the Emirates Stadium.
