Arson Alert: Parked Passenger Bus Destroyed!

Savar witnessed a frightening episode on the night of 13 December when a passenger bus parked on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway was engulfed in flames. The incident occurred near the Genda Bus Stand, leaving local residents shocked and sparking urgent responses from emergency services.

Fire authorities arrived promptly at the scene and managed to control the blaze without any injuries. According to Meherul Islam, a fire service inspector, “We received information about the fire at around 11 PM. Our team acted immediately to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby vehicles and structures.”

Police, however, are still trying to determine the cause of the fire. While no suspects have been identified yet, preliminary indications suggest the fire may have been intentionally set by vandals. The bus owner and driver are yet to be located, complicating the investigation.

Arman Ali, the officer-in-charge at Savar Model Police Station, confirmed that law enforcement officers conducted a thorough inspection of the site. “We are examining all possible leads, including CCTV footage and witness statements, to find out who might be behind this act,” he said.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing smoke and flames late at night, prompting immediate calls to the fire service. Fortunately, due to the timely intervention of firefighters, the fire did not escalate further, preventing possible injuries or a more extensive disaster.

Community members have voiced concerns about vehicle safety in Savar, urging the authorities to increase security measures around bus stands and other parking areas. Fire safety officials have advised bus owners to install fire extinguishers and maintain constant vigilance to avoid such incidents in the future.
