Atif Aslam’s Dhaka Show Cancelled Due to Security Issues

Another high-profile musical event in Dhaka has been cancelled, as popular Pakistani singer Atif Aslam’s much-anticipated concert was called off due to security clearance issues. Scheduled for 13 December at the China-Bangladesh Friendship Exhibition Centre (CBFC) in Purbachal, the performance had generated excitement among fans, only to be cancelled at the last moment.

Details of the Cancellation

Over the past month, Dhaka has witnessed a series of concert cancellations, including shows by Azmat Ali, Anuv Jain, Pakistan’s Jal Band, and Kabish. Atif Aslam’s performance was initially reported to have secured all necessary permissions, and preparations were reportedly complete. However, the organisers failed to obtain the final security clearance, forcing the event’s cancellation.

Atif Aslam expressed his regret on Thursday night via Facebook, writing:

“Dear Bangladeshi fans, it is with deep regret that we will not be performing at the concert scheduled for 13 December in Dhaka. The organisers and management were unable to finalise the required local permits, security clearance, and logistical arrangements.”

Event Organisers and Purpose

The concert was organised by Main Stage Inc, with Spirit of July as co-organisers. Despite extensive planning, the organisers have not issued an official statement regarding the cancellation.

The planned event was also intended to support charitable causes:

40% of the concert’s revenue was to be donated to the July Shaheed Smriti Foundation, which aids the families of those injured or martyred during the July movement.

Planned Performers and Schedule

Artist/Group Role
Atif Aslam Lead performer
Fuad Music director and producer
Nemesis Band Supporting performance
Other national artists Guest performers

The concert would have provided a platform for multiple artists, including both established and emerging talents from Bangladesh, alongside Atif Aslam’s headline performance.

Impact and Public Reaction

Fans expressed disappointment on social media, highlighting the growing trend of last-minute cancellations in Dhaka. While the logistical challenges and security requirements are cited as reasons, the repeated cancellations have raised questions about event planning and coordination in the city.

The cancellation marks yet another blow to live entertainment in Dhaka, with organisers emphasising that ensuring safety and compliance with local regulations remains a top priority.
