Industries Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan on Wednesday inaugurated the launch of Atlas Electric Scooters, describing the eco-friendly vehicles as a significant step towards building green, clean, and sustainable cities.
He highlighted the role these scooters will play in providing affordable and convenient transportation, particularly for young people and the wider public.
“This innovation will reduce our dependence on fuel, save foreign currency, and help protect the environment by cutting carbon emissions,” the adviser said during the marketing programme at the Atlas Bangladesh Ltd factory in Tongi, Gazipur.
The event was attended by Industries Secretary Md. Obaidur Rahman, Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Md. Anwarul Alam, and Professor Mohammad Ridwanul Haque, among others, according to a press release from the Ministry of Industries.
Adilur Rahman Khan further emphasised that the foundation for building a new Bangladesh through mass mobilisation lies in environmentally friendly, technology-driven, and sustainable industrialisation.
“The government has always supported the growth of domestic industries and will continue to do so in the future. Our goal is for the people of Bangladesh to use world-class local products and strengthen the national economy. In that respect, the launch of these electric scooters is undoubtedly a meaningful step forward,” he added.
Industries Secretary Md. Obaidur Rahman noted that the global shift towards electric vehicles is gaining momentum and highlighted Bangladesh’s efforts to follow suit.
“The Electric Vehicle Policy in Bangladesh is in its final stages. With Atlas scooters, we have entered the EV sector, and we will soon bring electric cars to the market as well,” he said.
Atlas Bangladesh Ltd has introduced four models under its Atlas EV brand: the S-100, S-90, S-80, and S-70. The scooters are being locally assembled at the Tongi facility under a collaboration with China’s Zhejiang Luyuan Electric Vehicle Co. Ltd. (Luyuan).
Imported parts are assembled in Bangladesh, with the first phase including these four models, which have been specially designed to suit the country’s climate and road conditions.
Senior officials from the Ministry of Industries, Atlas Bangladesh Ltd, and related organisations, as well as distributors of Atlas Electric Scooters, attended the ceremony.
