Allysa Healy, widely regarded as one of the most successful cricketers in women’s cricket history, has announced her retirement from international cricket. The Australian wicketkeeper-batter has achieved an extraordinary record, winning eight World Cups for her country and earning accolades as the player of the tournament in two editions. Recognised as one of the finest batters of her generation, Healy’s departure marks the end of an illustrious era.
Healy made the announcement on the Triple M Cricket podcast, Willow Talk, where she appeared as a guest. When asked if she had any news to share, Healy initially hesitated, stating, “I didn’t think I’d start this way. I thought I’d announce it at the end.” She then formally revealed, “I am officially retiring from cricket following the series against India.”
Australia is scheduled to host India in a three-format series from February to March. Healy will not feature in the T20 Internationals but will play in the three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and conclude her career with the sole Test match of the series. That Test, beginning on 6 March, will serve as Healy’s farewell to international cricket.
Over her prolific career, Healy has played 10 Tests, 123 ODIs, and 162 T20Is, amassing more than 7,000 runs across formats, including eight centuries and 38 half-centuries. Her contributions behind the stumps and with the bat have set her apart as a world-class wicketkeeper-batter.
Healy’s achievements include multiple team and individual honours: she won her first T20 World Cup at just 19 in 2010, and went on to secure the trophy in 2012, 2014, 2018, 2020, and 2023. She also celebrated ODI World Cup victories in 2013 and 2022. Individually, Healy was named ICC T20I Player of the Year in both 2018 and 2019.
Her personal life is closely intertwined with cricket as well; she is married to fellow Australian cricket legend, left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc. Together, they represent one of cricket’s most celebrated couples.
