Awareness Vital to Crime Prevention: KMP Commissioner

Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) Commissioner Md Zulfikar Ali Haidar today stressed that mass awareness is essential in the fight against all forms of crime, particularly human trafficking, smuggling, unsafe migration, and child marriage.

He made the remarks while attending an awareness-raising programme held at Fatema Girls’ High School in Khulna city, where he served as chief guest. The event was organised by the human rights organisation Justice and Care.

Highlights from the Commissioner’s Address

  • Preventing crimes such as human trafficking and child marriage is challenging but possible through grassroots-level awareness.
  • Teachers in schools and colleges play a pivotal role in educating and protecting youth from criminal exploitation.
  • Many victims are misled with false promises—such as job offers, modelling contracts, or marriage proposals—and are trafficked abroad.
  • Once trafficked, victims often lack proper travel documentation, complicating rescue and identification efforts.

“When victims realise they have been trafficked, it is often too late—especially without legal travel documents, making rescue and identification extremely difficult.”
— Md Zulfikar Ali Haidar, KMP Commissioner

He urged teachers to actively engage students in discussions around these dangers, noting that preventative education could significantly reduce the risk of exploitation.

KMP’s Commitment

The Commissioner reaffirmed that Khulna Metropolitan Police remains committed to:

  • Combatting human trafficking
  • Preventing child marriage
  • Promoting safe migration
  • Collaborating with schools, communities, and NGOs
