Babar Breaks Kohli’s Record, Makes History

Pakistan’s star batsman Babar Azam has etched his name into cricketing history by surpassing Virat Kohli’s long-standing record in T20 International cricket. On Sunday, during the third T20I against Australia in Lahore, Babar achieved a remarkable milestone, becoming the player with the most half-centuries in T20Is.

Opening the innings in the series-deciding match, Babar played a composed and impactful knock of 50 not out off 36 balls, anchoring Pakistan’s total to 207 for 6. Thanks to his innings, Pakistan went on to bowl out Australia for just 111 runs, securing a commanding 96-run victory and clinching the three-match series 3–0.

This unbeaten fifty marked Babar Azam’s 39th T20I half-century, surpassing Virat Kohli’s record of 38. Babar achieved this landmark in 139 innings, slightly later than Kohli, who reached 38 half-centuries in 125 innings. Nevertheless, this feat firmly establishes Babar at the pinnacle of T20I batting consistency.

Following Babar in the all-time T20I half-century list are India’s Rohit Sharma with 37, Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan with 31, and Australia’s David Warner with 29. Notably, Kohli, Rohit, and Warner have all retired from T20I cricket, while Rizwan is currently not part of the national side, providing Babar with an opportunity to extend his record further.

Key T20I Half-Century Records (Men’s Cricket):

Player Half-Centuries Innings Taken Status
Babar Azam 39 139 Active
Virat Kohli 38 125 Retired
Rohit Sharma 37 Retired
Mohammad Rizwan 31 Currently out
David Warner 29 Retired

Cricket analysts have hailed this achievement as a testament to Babar Azam’s remarkable consistency and temperament across formats. His elegant stroke play, coupled with the ability to adapt to pressure situations, has now firmly positioned him among the greatest T20I batsmen of all time.

With Pakistan dominating the series and Babar in imperious form, the future looks bright for the team in limited-overs cricket. Fans and experts alike will be eagerly watching to see how far Babar can push his T20I records, potentially setting benchmarks that may stand for years to come.
