Babna Karim Marks Triumphant Cinematic Return

Renowned rock musician Babna Karim is making a resounding return to the cinematic music scene after an extended hiatus, assuming complete creative control over the soundtrack of the forthcoming film Dhaka-e Robi. Under the direction of Rajib Salehin, Karim is undertaking an unprecedented level of involvement, personally composing, arranging, and performing the songs for the film. Such comprehensive engagement has not been seen from the artist in recent years, generating considerable excitement and anticipation among music aficionados and film enthusiasts alike.

Director Rajib Salehin revealed that Karim recently returned to Bangladesh to present preliminary musical drafts. Minor adjustments are underway, with final recordings expected shortly. According to Salehin, the central composition is designed to embody the essence of the film, capturing the emotional turbulence, aspirations, and doubts of the principal characters. The soundtrack particularly seeks to reflect the contemporary urban youth’s struggles with uncertainty, self-discovery, confusion, and ambition, translating these complex experiences into a rich musical narrative.

Karim’s homecoming coincides with a momentous occasion: his long-standing band, Warface, has been honoured with the prestigious Ekushey Padak this year, one of the country’s highest state recognitions. Karim returned to Bangladesh to participate in the award ceremony. Despite residing in the United States for nearly three decades, he has maintained an enduring connection to his homeland’s cultural landscape. Professionally trained as an engineer, Karim’s unwavering dedication to music ultimately shaped his identity as an artist. His distinctive voice and melodic innovation continue to resonate across multiple generations.

Last year, Karim re-emerged in the public spotlight with a fresh rendition of Obak Bhalobasha on Coke Studio Bangla, garnering widespread acclaim and proving that time has done nothing to diminish his artistic vitality.

The film Dhaka-e Robi stars Imtiaz Barshan in the lead role, with supporting performances by Richie Solaiman, Azad Abul Kalam, and Arman Parvez Murad. Principal photography has concluded, and post-production is currently in progress. Industry sources indicate a planned release during the interlude between Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha, a period considered strategically significant for the domestic film market.
