Bangladesh and Turkey to Hold Fourth Foreign Secretary-Level Meeting

Bangladesh and Turkey are set to convene for the fourth foreign secretary-level consultation, marking a significant step in bilateral relations. The meeting will be led on the Turkish side by Deputy Foreign Minister, Mr. E. Beris Ekinci, who is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka on Monday, 6 October, for a two-day official visit.

 

Officials from the Bangladesh Ministry of Foreign Affairs have indicated that the discussions at the foreign secretary-level meeting will cover the overall spectrum of Bangladesh-Turkey relations. Key areas likely to receive particular attention include:

  • Trade and Commerce Cooperation
  • Defence and Security Collaboration

A ministry official stated that the fourth foreign office consultation between Bangladesh and Turkey will take place on 7 October in Dhaka, five years after the previous meeting of the two countries’ secretaries. The discussions are expected to review bilateral ties comprehensively.

 

During his Dhaka visit, Deputy Foreign Minister Ekinci will:

  • Participate in the foreign secretary-level consultation
  • Hold bilateral meetings with top advisors and officials, including:
    • Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor to the Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister
    • Md. Tauhid Hossain, Foreign Affairs Advisor
    • Muhammad Fauzul Kabir Khan, Advisor to the Ministries of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Road Transport and Bridges, and Railways

 

According to diplomatic sources, the Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister will also meet separately with leaders of major Bangladeshi political parties, including:

  • Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)
  • Jamaat-e-Islami
  • National Citizens’ Party (NCP)

These interactions aim to strengthen Turkey’s diplomatic engagement with diverse political stakeholders in Bangladesh.

 

This meeting represents a renewed effort to reinforce bilateral cooperation after a five-year interval and highlights Turkey’s interest in enhancing strategic, economic, and diplomatic ties with Bangladesh.

The discussions are expected to set the framework for future collaboration in trade, defence, and diplomatic initiatives, while also addressing emerging regional and international concerns.
