Bangladesh Army to Fully Support Election Commission for Elections: Army Chief

The Chief of Army Staff, General Waker-uz-Zaman, has assured that the Bangladesh Army will extend full cooperation to the Election Commission to ensure free and fair national elections. He made this statement on Sunday, 23 November, during a ceremony held at the Army Multipurpose Complex in Dhaka Cantonment to mark Armed Forces Day.

General Waker-uz-Zaman emphasised that the Bangladesh Army will continue to work in the interest of the nation and for the welfare of the people, following the path laid down by the country’s freedom fighters.

During the event, the Army Chief awarded medals and honours to recognise exceptional bravery and outstanding contributions within the armed forces. A total of 64 army personnel were presented with various medals, and 75 families of freedom fighters received special recognition for their contributions.

Specifically, for the fiscal years 2024–2025 and 2025–2026, nine personnel were awarded the Army Medal for their distinguished service, 17 received the Exceptional Service Medal, and 38 were honoured with the Distinguished Service Medal.

The ceremony highlighted the Army’s ongoing commitment to national service and its dedication to supporting the country’s democratic processes while recognising the heroic deeds of its members and the sacrifices of freedom fighter families.

General Waker-uz-Zaman’s remarks underline the Army’s role not only as a protector of the nation but also as a reliable partner of the Election Commission, ensuring that the electoral process is conducted transparently and efficiently for the benefit of all citizens.
