Bangladesh are set to commence their Asia Cup mission with an opening clash against Hong Kong. The Tigers’ ambition is crystal clear — to return home as champions. Their journey towards that dream begins on Thursday, 11 September, when Liton Das’ team take the field in Abu Dhabi.
This year, Group B has already been branded the ‘Group of Death’. Bangladesh find themselves competing alongside some formidable sides:
| Group B Teams | Notes |
| Bangladesh | Led by Liton Das |
| Sri Lanka | Defending champions, experienced campaigners |
| Afghanistan | Strong in T20 format |
| Hong Kong | Developing but competitive |
Bangladesh will therefore have to navigate stern challenges to advance.
On the eve of the opener, Wednesday, 10 September, skipper Liton Das shared his mindset at the pre-match press conference: “At this moment, there is no scope for going in with a negative mindset. We have played some very good cricket in the recent past and are adequately prepared. We will enter the game only to win, never worrying about who the opponents are. As I have always said, we must give one hundred per cent in every match and always bring our best effort, regardless of the team we face.”
Bangladesh do bear the memory of a T20 defeat against Hong Kong back in 2014. However, things have changed dramatically since then. The Tigers are now far ahead in terms of strength, experience, and quality. As a result, securing victory against Hong Kong should not be an overwhelming task.
Unlike the experimental line-ups used during the Netherlands series, Bangladesh are expected to rely on their regular players in this campaign. Shamim Patowary and Rishad Hossain may return to the starting XI, while Tanzim Sakib could be drafted in as the third fast bowler.
