Bangladesh Clinch Victory by 22 Runs in Australia

In the Top End T20 series, Bangladesh ‘A’ team had lost two of the first three matches. Therefore, securing a win in the next leg against Northern Territory Strikers was crucial to smoothen their path forward. Nurul Hasan Sohan and Hasan Mahmud ensured a strong performance, leading Bangladesh to a 22-run victory over the Australian side.

After losing the toss in Darwin, Bangladesh ‘A’ batted first and scored 172 runs for 4 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Key performances included:

  • Afif Hossain: 41 runs off 40 balls
  • Nurul Hasan Sohan: 35 runs off 23 balls

Early aggression from the openers set the tone for the innings. Naim Sheikh and Zishan Alam provided an excellent start, taking advantage of the powerplay to push the team to a 55-run opening partnership before Naim’s dismissal after scoring 25 off 11 balls.

Middle-order contributions were slower, with Saif Hasan scoring just 3 runs off 10 balls. Afif Hossain steadied the innings with 41 runs off 40 balls*, but at a relatively slow pace. In the final overs, Sohan and Rabbir accelerated the scoring: Sohan scored 35 off 23 balls, while Rabbir remained 22 off 13 balls*, helping to set a challenging total.

Chasing 173, Northern Territory struggled from the outset. Hasan Mahmud struck early in the second over, dismissing Jake Weatherland for 4 runs, preventing the opening partnership from flourishing.

Another opener, D Archi Shot, was caught by Ripon Mondal off Nurul Hasan Sohan’s bowling. Soon after, Sam Alder was also dismissed, giving Bangladesh a strong start with the ball.

Northern Territory Partnership Runs Outcome
Openers dismissed early 24 runs for 3 wickets Team under immediate pressure
Conor Kerle & Jordan Silk Mid-innings resistance Both batted well but fell short of fifties

Kerle and Silk attempted to rebuild the innings, scoring strongly in the middle overs. However, after their dismissals, no other batsman managed to provide significant resistance, and Northern Territory were eventually restricted to 150 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs.

Highlights

  • Bangladesh recovered after early middle-order pressure to post a competitive total.
  • Hasan Mahmud’s early wickets set the tone for the bowling attack.
  • The opening partnerships, particularly Naim Sheikh & Zishan Alam, and late-order acceleration by Sohan and Rabbir proved decisive.

Bangladesh ‘A’ team thus returned to the winning column, taking an important step in the Top End T20 series with a 22-run victory over the Northern Territory Strikers.
