Bangladesh Defeat Kazakhstan 5-1 in Asia Cup Hockey

Bangladesh secured a comfortable 5-1 victory over Kazakhstan in the fifth-to-eighth place semi-finals of the Hero Men’s Asia Cup Hockey, held at the Bihar Sports University Hockey Stadium in Rajgir, India, on Thursday.

The win sets up a clash with Japan in the fifth-and-sixth place decider, scheduled for Sunday, 7 September, at the same venue.

  • Ashraful Islam opened the scoring in the first quarter with a penalty corner in the 10th minute and extended the lead with a penalty stroke in the 23rd minute.
  • Roman Sarkar further widened the gap with a field goal in the 28th minute, then scored again from a penalty corner in the 33rd minute.
  • Tayab Ali added a field goal in the 34th minute, making it 5-0, before Aitkaliyev pulled one back for Kazakhstan in the 38th minute.

 

Bangladesh had already been eliminated from contention for the top positions, finishing third in Group B with three points:
