The Government of Bangladesh has placed an order to purchase 25 aircraft from the American aerospace giant Boeing, according to Commerce Secretary Mahbubur Rahman.
Speaking with journalists on Sunday, 27 July, at the Commerce Ministry in Dhaka, Secretary Rahman confirmed the development during an informal briefing held in his office.
“Since Boeing is a private entity and not operated through the US government, the procurement process is conducted directly with the company,” said Mahbubur Rahman.
He added that the order for 25 aircraft reflects a significant step in strengthening Bangladesh’s aviation capacity and is part of a broader regional trend. Countries like India, Vietnam, and Indonesia have also placed substantial orders with Boeing—100 aircraft each, as mentioned by the Secretary.
Aircraft Orders by Country
| Country | Number of Aircraft Ordered |
| Bangladesh | 25 |
| India | 100 |
| Vietnam | 100 |
| Indonesia | 100 |
Delivery Timeline and Expectations
Secretary Rahman noted that Boeing will deliver the aircraft based on their production capacity, and that the delivery process will require time due to existing order backlogs and manufacturing schedules.
“The aircraft will be delivered in phases, aligned with Boeing’s manufacturing capability,” he explained.
While no specific timeline was provided, the deal signals Bangladesh’s commitment to expanding its aviation infrastructure, aligning with regional growth in air travel demand and commercial aviation development.
