Chief Adviser of the Interim Government, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, has announced that Bangladesh is prepared to hold national elections by mid-February.
He made this statement during a joint briefing following a bilateral meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Tuesday, 12 August.
At the joint briefing, Dr. Yunus said Bangladesh is striving to revive all sectors, including the economy. He expressed gratitude to the Malaysian government for providing educational and employment opportunities for the youth. Additionally, he invited Malaysian businesspeople to invest in Bangladesh.
Regarding the Rohingya crisis, the Chief Adviser remarked that it is a major challenge for Bangladesh and sought assistance from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to resolve the issue.
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim acknowledged Dr. Yunus’s significant role in establishing peace in Bangladesh.
During the bilateral talks, five Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed across various sectors, including defence, energy, and halal food.
Earlier, on the second day of his visit, Anwar Ibrahim welcomed the Chief Adviser at his office in Putrajaya.
