Bangladesh’s women’s cricket team stunned Pakistan in their opening World Cup match, with pacemaker Marufa Akter playing a decisive role with the ball. The team is now preparing to face a formidable England side in Guwahati, India, today (7 October).
Confidence in Bowling Attack
Captain Nigar Sultana Jyoti expressed confidence in her team’s bowling attack ahead of the match against England. Speaking at a press conference yesterday, Jyoti said: “We have had good pacers in the past, but the discussion around Marufa is something no one else has experienced.”
Regarding Marufa, Jyoti added: “The most important thing for her is to remain focused on the World Cup. We hope all this attention does not affect her performance.”
England Acknowledges Marufa’s Threat
England all-rounder Charlie Dean also highlighted concerns about Marufa Akter’s bowling: “Bangladesh started the World Cup with an impressive win against Pakistan. Their bowling attack is outstanding. They are a very strong team in these conditions, and we must try to handle Marufa’s swing effectively.”
Marufa’s performances will be key as Bangladesh aims to maintain momentum against one of the strongest teams in the tournament.
