In their final group-stage match of the Women’s ODI World Cup, Bangladesh will take on host nation India. Although the dream of reaching the semifinals is over, Nigar Sultana Joty’s side aims to end their campaign on a winning note. Having previously drawn a home series against India, the Tigresses will take confidence from that experience.
India, having already secured a semifinal spot, will look to continue their winning momentum. The match will take place on Sunday (October 26) at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai, starting at 3:30 PM Bangladesh time.
Bangladesh’s inability to perform consistently with the bat has kept them from making this tournament memorable. Before heading home, they have one final challenge—against host India. Recent encounters between the two neighboring teams have been competitive, adding extra excitement to this clash.
The Tigresses can take some confidence heading into the contest, as they previously drew a home ODI series against this Indian side. Even though this time the match is away, Bangladesh can still hope for victory if they make good use of that experience.
So far, Bangladesh’s main concern in this World Cup has been batting. Despite the bowlers restricting opponents to low totals, Joty and her teammates have struggled to maintain scoring rates. The campaign began with a win against Pakistan, followed by competitive performances against South Africa, New Zealand, and England. However, they suffered a narrow loss in a winnable game against Sri Lanka.
To challenge India, Bangladeshi batters like Joty, Fargana, and Shobhana must focus on improving their strike rates. Meanwhile, India enters the match in fine form. Smriti Mandhana scored a century in the previous game, with runs also coming from Pratika Rawal. Jemimah Rodrigues and Deol have been consistent throughout the tournament.
India’s bowlers, including Deepti Sharma, Kranti, and Renuka, have also been impressive. Given their familiarity with home conditions, India holds a natural advantage. Still, as a battle between two neighboring rivals, the match promises extra excitement and anticipation.
