Bangladesh U-17 Down 2-0 Against China at Half-Time

In a high-stakes AFC U-17 Asian Cup qualifier in Peru, Bangladesh went into half-time trailing 2-0 to China. With four consecutive wins in the earlier matches, victory was crucial for Bangladesh to secure their progression. However, early errors against a technically superior opponent put them on the back foot.

The game began at Tongliang Long Stadium with Bangladesh trying to impose their rhythm. In the eighth minute, a defensive miscue by the Bangladeshi backline led to China’s first goal. A backpass intended for goalkeeper Alif Rahman deflected off a Bangladeshi defender, allowing Chinese striker Shuai Weihau to finish clinically.

Bangladesh attempted to respond, with Ihsan Habib Riduan breaking through midfield and shooting from inside the box in the 18th minute. China’s goalkeeper, however, produced a sharp save to keep the scoreline at 1-0. Moments later, Shuai Weihau almost scored again, weaving past defenders inside the box, but the ball grazed the post.

The second goal, coming in the 38th minute, exposed Bangladesh’s defensive coordination issues. Kamal Mridha’s backpass to goalkeeper Alif Rahman was intercepted, enabling Shuai Weihau to convert with ease, doubling China’s lead. By half-time, Bangladesh’s youngsters faced a challenging scenario, needing both defensive stability and attacking creativity in the second half to stay in contention.

Tactically, Bangladesh must focus on minimising risky passes in their own half, improving marking during transitions, and maintaining possession to control the tempo. While trailing, the team has shown glimpses of quality and aggression, suggesting a potential second-half resurgence if they execute their strategies effectively.
