Bangladesh, US Discuss Aviation Sector Development

Bangladesh and the United States held discussions on strengthening bilateral cooperation to advance the nation’s civil aviation sector. The talks focused on modernising infrastructure, enhancing operational capabilities, and expanding collaborative opportunities between the two countries.

The meeting took place on Tuesday at the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism in Dhaka, where the Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister, Afroza Khanam, met with US Ambassador to Bangladesh, Brent T. Christensen, in a courtesy session. State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism, M. Rashiduzzaman Millat, was also present, along with senior officials from the ministry.

A government press release highlighted that both sides emphasised the importance of reinforcing long-standing bilateral ties between Dhaka and Washington. The discussion underscored the United States’ continued commitment to supporting Bangladesh’s civil aviation development, including modernisation initiatives, safety improvements, and capacity enhancement for airports and air navigation systems.

Ambassador Christensen assured that Washington would continue to stand alongside Bangladesh in pursuing projects of mutual interest. He added that the US was committed to assisting the current government in implementing initiatives to strengthen aviation safety, infrastructure, and operational standards.

Minister Afroza Khanam noted that Bangladesh’s aviation sector has seen significant growth in recent years, with increasing passenger volumes and expanding international connectivity. She stressed that international cooperation, particularly with technologically advanced partners like the United States, would accelerate the modernisation of air transport services in the country.

The meeting also addressed training programmes for air traffic management, airport operations, and safety compliance, highlighting the potential for US support in technical expertise and capacity building. Both parties expressed interest in exploring investment opportunities in airport infrastructure, flight navigation systems, and civil aviation technologies.
