Bangladeshi Extradited to U.S. Over Child Exploitation

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has extradited a 28-year-old Bangladeshi national, Zobaidul Amin, from Malaysia to the United States following his arrest on multiple charges, including running an international child sexual exploitation network.

FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed the operation in an official post on Friday, stating that Amin had been a fugitive since 2022. According to Patel, the suspect was apprehended in collaboration with Malaysian authorities and U.S. local partners. Amin was transported from Malaysia to Alaska, where he will face charges in a federal court. Detailed information regarding the case is expected to be released in due course.

Expressing gratitude, Director Patel thanked the Government of Malaysia and U.S. partners for their cooperation in the investigation and arrest.

Meanwhile, a press release on the U.S. Department of Justice website on Thursday confirmed that Amin is scheduled to appear in the District of Alaska court on 5 March to respond to the charges related to international child sexual abuse.

According to reports, Amin was indicted in July 2022 by a federal grand jury in the United States. The indictment accuses him of exploiting hundreds of children across Alaska, other U.S. states, and abroad. The allegations indicate that Amin used social media platforms such as Instagram and Snapchat to identify minors and coerce them into producing sexually explicit photos and videos.

Before the U.S. indictment, Amin had been living in Malaysia, where he was pursuing studies in medicine. In September 2022, the Malaysian Attorney General’s Office charged him with possession and production of child pornography.

The FBI and U.S. Department of Justice have maintained close coordination with Malaysian authorities throughout the investigation, culminating in Amin’s extradition on 4 March. If convicted, he faces a prison sentence ranging from 20 years to life imprisonment.
