Bangladesh, three-time runners-up in the Asia Cup, arrived in the United Arab Emirates with hopes of claiming the championship. While those hopes initially seemed distant, Bangladesh now stands very close to a final appearance. However, to reach that stage, they must overcome Pakistan. Today (Thursday), the two sides will face off in what has effectively become a semi-final at the Super Four stage of the tournament.
The match is scheduled to start at 8:30 PM Bangladesh time at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Both teams are expected to field their strongest sides as they aim for a place in the final. Bangladesh’s possible XI has been a topic of considerable discussion, particularly after the previous match saw four changes in the lineup—an unusual move that initially surprised fans. Given the back-to-back matches, players have now adapted to the schedule, raising hopes among Tiger supporters for a different approach against Pakistan after the loss to India.
Litton Kumar Das, the regular captain, is likely to return to the XI after missing the previous match due to injury. In his absence, Zaker Ali Onik captained the team for the first time in an international match. With Litton back, either Tanzid Tamim or Parvez Hossain Emon is expected to make way.
Additionally, Taskin Ahmed and Sheikh Mehedi Hasan may re-enter the XI, which could see Mohammad Saifuddin and Nasum Ahmed dropped.
Despite the middle-order batters’ inconsistent performances, significant changes are unlikely. Towhid Hridoy, Shamim Patowary, and Zaker Ali Onik are expected to retain their places.
At the tail-end, Sheikh Mehedi Hasan and Rishad Hossain will continue alongside the pace attack. Tanzim Saqib, Mustafizur Rahman, and Taskin Ahmed are expected to lead the bowling attack.
