FC Barcelona will proceed with their pre-season friendly match in Japan on Sunday, as confirmed by J-League side Vissel Kobe, despite earlier reports of cancellation over “serious contractual breaches”.
Background of the Dispute
Earlier in the week, Barcelona issued a statement announcing the suspension of their participation in the Japan fixture, citing:
“Serious contractual breaches on behalf of the promoter.”
This announcement cast uncertainty over their scheduled tour across Asia, particularly the Japan leg.
Resolution and Match Confirmation
On Friday, Vissel Kobe confirmed that the match would go ahead as planned, stating:
“Following careful discussions with the relevant parties, the match scheduled for Sunday… will be held as planned.”
The club acknowledged the presence of contractual issues, but stated they had been working closely with their owner and Barcelona representatives to ensure the match could take place.
Barcelona’s Response
Despite their earlier concerns, Barcelona released a video on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, showing the team’s arrival in Japan with the cheerful caption:
“Konnichiwa, Japan!”
They followed with another post expressing their enthusiasm:
“We are really excited to be in Japan.”
