Bayern Legend Ribéry Discussed in Epstein Files

Published: 10 Feb 2026, 12:46 pm

The recently released documents linked to the notorious sex offender Jeffrey Epstein have now brought the name of retired Bayern Munich and French football legend Franck Ribéry into public discussion. The United States Department of Justice (DOJ) made available over 30 million pages of documents, alongside 180,000 photographs and 2,000 videos, revealing information about numerous high-profile figures worldwide. Ribéry’s name appears among the many prominent individuals listed.

While many entries in the documents are simple name lists without context, some contain detailed testimony. Ribéry’s mention has triggered widespread debate and discussion across social media, initially surfacing in a post on Reddit’s r/soccer community, where users highlighted the relevant sections and began analysing them.

The first appearance of Ribéry’s name is on page 26 of one document. The same page describes an alleged incident in a garden, where it is claimed that Ribéry attempted to strike an individual, prompting police involvement. Later pages reference Sylvain Cormier, known as Karim Benzema’s lawyer, who is alleged to have claimed that Ribéry and Benzema were seeking underage girls at a venue, again involving police intervention.

It is crucial to emphasise that while Ribéry’s name appears in these documents alongside serious allegations, inclusion in the Epstein files does not constitute evidence of a crime. The DOJ itself has warned that many entries lack sufficient evidence or full context. Hundreds of other well-known individuals are also named without any formal charges. Legal experts have stressed that these documents often include unverified claims and hearsay; therefore, the presence of a name alone should not be interpreted as proof of wrongdoing.

The publication of such sensitive material has drawn criticism over incomplete editing and the potential exposure of private information. Lawmakers and victim rights organisations have called for federal oversight to ensure that transparency does not compromise fairness or individual privacy.

For Ribéry, the Epstein files do not trigger any new legal proceedings. He was previously investigated in 2010 alongside Karim Benzema over allegations involving a minor sex worker, but the French court dismissed the case in 2014.

Ribéry’s footballing career remains distinguished. Joining Bayern Munich in 2007, he played 404 matches, scoring 118 goals and winning nine Bundesliga titles and one UEFA Champions League trophy over a decade before retiring in October 2022. His appearance in the documents illustrates the complex balance between transparency, accountability, and fairness when dealing with archival investigations of high-profile figures.
